3 Drink Mixes to Try This Summer

by Jenni in

First, today is the second day of our squat challenge! I am so happy to be doing this with you! Yesterday's was quite wonderful, so let's kick it up a bit on the second day of the challenge :)

Summer is here, summer is here! When I think summer I think sipping drinks poolside or lounging at the beach. It makes perfect sense then to be seeing so many fantastic drinks that are perfect for poolside sipping, picnics, and tanning by the beach.

Since we are up at camp and working super hard 12+ hours of the day, these drinks will have to be put on hold for the time being. But you just wait, August, I guarantee that one or two of these goodies will be in your future!

Rose Sangria

{via}

There is a very abrupt split in our family between those who love sangria and those who hate it. I am on the side of loving it; I mean, it is wine and juice with fruit, how could someone not?! This Rose Sangria was first discovered on Cup of Jo from Kimberley Hasselbrink's new book, Vibrant Food, and I have been thinking of it ever since. Ingredients include Rose, watermelon, lime, raspberries and more. Drink this and think of me... then tell me how it is!

Blueberry and Basil Smoothie

This goodie is something that everyone in the family can enjoy and is even a bit healthy! Honestly though, I would be just as happy looking at this beauty as I would be eating it. The blue coloring and green leaves just makes is so appealing. Then you add in the cool smoothie after a hot day and it just might be heaven! This could be one I will be trying before summer is fading away!

Tom Terrific

Don't you just love this name? What you may love even more is the mix of Indian Pale Ale with gin. I could totally see this drink being sipped at an uber lush backyard barbecue where everyone has perfect smiles and are nonchalantly laughing with one another. Adorable children with perfect manners, hair, and clothing would be playing with perfect puppies and all the adults would have impeccable taste in fashion. Of course, Tom would be there, he is so terrific.

Yoga for Hangovers

by Jenni in

First off, Happy St. Patrick's Day! Are you wearing green today or celebrating tonight? We will be doing both by way of some cute BR green jeans on my part and an Irish Pub for some celebration. If you are planning to go crazy tonight, this post is just for you (and possibly me) tomorrow morning.

Sometimes, we do go a little crazy and pay for it the next morning in the form of a hangover. Whether or not that will be your tonight, chances are it will happen at some point. When I was younger (am I really that old now?) hangovers were not a thing. Now, more than two glasses of wine and I am in the zone of possibly waking up in a haze. But hey, that's ok as long as I get some yoga in and plenty of water. Usually, no matter what haze I wake-up in, water, vitamin B12, and yoga will fix it.

Tara Stiles released a yoga how-to for all of us who had a bit too much fun the night before. This flow is wonderfully short and focuses on getting blood flowing to our brain and cleansing our bodies. At first, the idea of doing any sort of inversion sounded like the worst thing I could do when my world is spinning. Turns out that Tara Stiles is right again. Inversions will help! Here is another great Tara Stiles hangover flow for all those fantastic, overachieving yogis out there!

P.S. In case you mix last week's run down on which drinks are better for you, you can find them here and here! Here are a few yummy (and healthy) St. Patrick's Day recipes as well.

Healthy Drinks for Cleansing Your Body

by Jenni in

We had a Christmas party at our place last night. Yes, there were cookies- multiple kinds, actually, and cheese, and dips, and about 50 other things that were delicious but far from good. Now, all I want is kale juice with ginger, lemon, cucumber, and anything else wholesome that will fit in our juicer.

Thankfully, I planned ahead for this for the first time ever and have all those amazing, juicable, fruits and veggies in the fridge already. This is the first time I have ever really planned food for the day after a party and it's kinda a big deal. Here are a few of the detox drinks we will be having today and tomorrow!

This article on different types of cleanses is also pretty neat!

The Mean Green

{via}

When it comes to juicing, this one is as common as bread and butter, but is oh so much healthier. The mean green would have to be my favorite detox juice. Juice:

  • 1 cucumber
  • 4 stalks celery
  • 2 apples
  • 8 kale leaves
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1" ginger root

Autumn Gold Rush

Just look at the ingredients and tell me it does not sound amazing. This may also be the best juice cleanse party drink ever! This site has some other incredible looking recipes for your perusal as well. Juice:

  • ½ medium sweet potato
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 cucumber
  • ½ inch of tumeric root
  • Can also be served with cinnamon sprinkled on the top and sparkling water.

Popeye's Green Juice

I cannot wait to drink this one up! It sounds great and is also the first to have parsley- a delicious and healthy juicing component. Here is a quick sum-up of why parsley is so healthy. Juice:

  • 1 bag of organic baby spinach
  • ½ bunch parsley
  • ½ cucumber
  • 1 pear
  • 1 lemon
  • 1” ginger root

A Green Anytime Smoothie

These are all great options for those who have a juicer, but if you don't, do not fret. There are some fantastic smoothie recipes as well. One of my absolute faves and daily foods is a kale, banana, and strawberry smoothie. Just put this in a blender and enjoy!

  • 2 cups kale
  • 3 sliced strawberries
  • 1/2 a banana, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Ice cubes, optional
